The process of working in clay is a great joy. For the past three years I have been "enjoying" using stains, underglazes, overglazes, and a variety of techniques to achieve vibrant color in the unusual decorator and functional pieces I make.

I use both handbuilt and wheel-thrown techniques and often combine the the two in one piece. Using a "low-fire" clay allows me to develop a full range of color in the work. The pieces are functional as well as decorative and can hold liquids, are food safe, dishwasher safe, and microwaveable.

At my studio in Sequim, I have a wide variety of wall sconces, clay baskets, vases, rosebowls, and my newest item, birdhouses. The birdhouses hang, sit on posts, and wall mount. A current favorite with the birds, and their admirers, is a sunflower motif. They look great in the garden or on the house exterior. In addition, I have created tile table tops, handglazed tile sinks, countertops, and tile walls to extend and compliment the counter.

Please call and/or drop by the studio to visit and see the variety of work available. Commissions are welcome and I love working with clients in the creation process.

If you are interested in purchasing one of Viva's pieces, please call the Blue Whole Gallery, at 360-681-6033.
