I use ancient methods to create contemporary ceramics; each piece is unique and cannot be replicated. I hand coil each pot, smooth and shape the form, then burnish it with a stone to achieve a high glass. I do not use glaze on this work. The pots are fired in either a pit fire or sawdust fire which may take twenty-four hours or more. The Gods of Fire decorate my pots for me. This way of working puts me in spiritual contact with other potters across time and cultures. My work is very meditative and done with great awareness and peace. My education with clay never ends. Although I travel to various workshops every year, my Master teacher is the clay. It has taught me to be patient and to respect the natural, the imperfect and the simple.
