The Arts in Port Townsend

The Port Townsend arts community includes Centrum, Washington State's center for the visual and performing arts. It was founded in 1973 through a unique partnership between the Washington State Arts Commission, and the Washington State Parks Commission, and later Washington's Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. It is located in beautiful Fort Worden state park.

There is so much to do, it is often difficult to decide just where to begin. Start with a look at the events calendar on this site.  Also, take a look at PT Guide for happenings around town.  Look at the Arts Newsletter produced by Northwind.

As a designated 501(c)3 nonprofit, Northwind Arts Center serves in the public interest with exhibits from excellent artists,
and periodic juried shows.

Port Townsend Art Gallery and Gallery 9 are cooperative galleries with the wide variety of work that implies.  Take a look at the Galleries page for a list of the many fine attractions; most are clustered within walking distance of Water Street.

Throughout the year, many of Port Townsend's artists are open, by appointment.  Use the Art Port Townsend studio tour pages to see their work and read directions and phone numbers.

Gallery walks occur each first Saturday

There are many sources for news about the arts on the Olympic Peninsula. Check the news resources page for some suggestions. The orange tab on the top of this page is one way to see what's happening, or to enter an event. If you'd like to keep up to date on events, be sure to e mail Vanessa Shearer with the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and ask to be placed on her mailing list. While you're at it, please tell Vanessa "thank you" for keeping all of us up to date.
